Overall Aim: To deepen understanding about Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), emphasising its stages, causes, symptoms, complications and management, to enhance the ability to recognise, support and guide individuals at risk or affected by CKD.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the stages of CKD, from mild kidney damage to kidney failure and the associated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) criteria, enabling accurate assessment and classification.
- Identify the primary causes of CKD, including diabetes, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), infections and urinary tract obstructions, to facilitate early recognition and targeted preventive strategies.
- Recognise the symptoms and potential complications of CKD, such as cardiovascular disease, anaemia, bone and mineral disorders and fluid/electrolyte imbalance, in order to promote timely interventions and comprehensive patient care.
